Fabulous, Oh So Fabulous!

Last week, thousands of you read all about Baby Daphne, the miracle of her life, and when Baby Daphne returned to Heaven. Early last week, I contacted several vendors and business owners asking if they would sponsor the miracle of Daphne's life and in return, I'd host a giveaway for them.

The first to respond was the incredible Jessica who is the genius woman behind Jewelry by Sebastian Design. I ran across her Etsy Shop a while back from another blog and immediately fell in love. She makes the most wonderful custom hand stamped jewelry and much much more!

Jessica is generously offering this fabulous dog tag necklace to one lucky winner!

Now the rules to enter are very simple. Go visit Jewelry by Sebastian Design on Etsy and then leave a comment telling me which piece of her's is your favorite!

George Strait Said It Best... Just Give It Away

Lovelies!!
I'm here with ANOTHER fabulous giveaway!!!

I know, I know, I'm amazing.

A while back I was contacted by a lovely lady by the name of Kate. As I read her email, I got more and more excited about what she was saying.

Do you want to know what its all about?!

Okay, I'll tell you.
In a minute.

First, let me ask all of you Milie Lovelies who have been through a deployment with their loverface a question.

How many times while you were separated by duty, oceans, and several thousand miles did you wish you could just see their face and hear their voice?

How many times?

If you're anything like me, you couldn't even fathom a guess because that innate desire and need to feel connected for even just a second never really leaves. Its ALWAYS there.

Well, I have something incredible to share with you all.

SuperTintin, the company who contacted me, has partnered with Skype which has resulted in the most incredible collaboration ever. In the next few weeks or so, they together will be offering 100 Skype Recording Licenses to very lucky, deserving lovebirds and Milie families!

Yes, Skype Recording Licenses. Its EXACTLY what it sounds like.

Here are a few words from Kate explaining about this fantastic company and product.

"SuperTintin is also a huge supporter of our military families and would like to show their support by hosting a fun campaign for military families just in time for Valentine's Day. To that end, SuperTintin is donating 100 licenses to its Skype recording software so that deployed/stationed servicemen and women can connect with their families at home and the at-home family can record the conversation (and all following conversations) to play back or share with other family and friends as much as they'd like."

Did you get that Lovelies?! A way to record your loved ones face and voice so that you ALWAYS have the option to see them and hear them no matter how far away they are or how long its been since you've been able to make contact with one another.

What a blessing!!

It gets better dolls, much better.

Not only are 100 of these Skype Recording Licenses going to be gracing Milie families but I get to give away 5 of them myself!

SEVEN!!

So now for the details. There will be 7 winners of this giveaway just on my page alone but I will also be able to share with you the other military sites and bloggers that will be hosting giveaways of their own!

You will have SO many opportunities to enter and hopefully win one for yourself!

A quick note: The Skype Recording Software is NOT compatible with any Mac/Apple products. Yet. So really, unless you have a PC, its not really good to enter because it takes away the chance of someone who has a way to use this awesome software.

This giveaway will remain open until February 12 at midnight PST and the winners will be chosen and contacted by email immediately. I will then provide Kate from SuperTintin with your email address and she will get you all of your license information just in time for Valentine's Day!!

Now that the basics and information about this giveaway have been covered, I'll dive right into your many MANY ways to enter.

1. Leave a comment stating you would like to win, have a PC, whether a loved one is currently TDY, deployed, stationed overseas, or scheduled to leave soon and your email address.

That is all required for ONE entry.

2. Follow SuperTintin on TWITTER and leave me your @handle so I can verify.

3. Become friends with SuperTintin on FACEBOOK and comment with a URL for verification.

4. Blog about this giveaway and include a link to this post on my blog and at least one link to either SuperTintin's TWITTER, FACEBOOK, OR WEBSITE. Leave a comment with a URL to verify.

5. Follow my blog and leave a comment.

6. Like the official FACEBOOK page for this blog and leave a comment.

7. Visit MilitaryBlogs.com and give this blog a +Boost. Leave a comment saying you did so and it can be done ONCE A DAY. Each time you +Boost and leave me a comment will count as an entry. I will also be verifying this.

So Lovelies, there is one MANDATORY entry and at the minimum, 6 extra entries if you only do a +Boost once. That's a lot of chances to win!!

If you enter on other blogs and are chosen as a winner and then chosen as a winner on my blog as well, I will choose a new one in your stead.

So get to entering and sharing this fabulous news!!!

A giant thank you to SuperTintin and good luck to all you Lovelies!!

Other bloggers also participating in hosting their own SuperTintin giveaways:

Please note that although I did receive a free recording license from SuperTintin in exchange for posting about their site, all opinions and words are my own.

I Am Behind

Behind.
Yes, we all have one but my glorious badonkadonk is NOT my issue right now.
It's the fact that I am so BEHIND on pretty much everything.

Laundry.
Cleaning.
Finishing painting projects.
Starting furniture projects... one is a year behind.

See, I told you.

Really though, I have zero excuse.
I know I'm behind and I know exactly why.

When I PLAN on being productive, it does NOT happen.
Today was supposed to be a slew of projects and productivity.

Guess what I did?
Worked on slimming down my DVR and ate Valentine's Conversation Hearts.
Not the nasty tum/chalky kind, the sweettarts kind.
Or as the bag says, "Tart & Sassy"

Kind of like me.

Anyway, I have about 5 giveaways I'll be putting up soon and as promised, the Lovelies who entered my last one, will be getting something fun.

I hope they think its fun.
I very well could have failed at that too.

For now Lovelies, thanks for sticking with me!!

xoxo

Some People Be Crazy

There's a thin line between enthusiasm in an interest and obsession.
There's a thin line between appreciation for unique things and a tendency towards the uh.... impractical? That's putting it lightly.

Some people have compulsions that are strange and some people, well, some people be crazy.

If anyone can sympathize and understand the desire and need for a baby, its me. This lady though, is beyond the normal desire and in dire need of psychiatric help. If you are on government assistance as your sole source of income and livelihood, you should NOT be spending every cent of it on a fake baby, let alone thinking of getting it a sibling. Nuts. And her poor daughter!!

Like I said, some people be crazy.

You know what's not crazy? My current giveaway. It closes tomorrow at midnight and it is open to all Lovelies with ties to the military (self, spouse, child, good friend) because its 25$ up for grabs at MilitarySurplus.com. Go Enter!!

Those Lovelies who enter, whether they win or not, get a little something extra just for entering! Spread the word yo!

Give It Away, Give It Away, Give It Away Now

Oh my Lovelies!

Its time for a giveaway!! Yay!

This giveaway is brought to us by PatriotSurplus.com!! They contacted me before Christmas and asked if I would be interested in hosting a giveaway for them. I said, "Yes!" and now here we are.

For those unfamiliar with PatriotSurplus.com, it is a wonderful company started up, owned, and operated by a former Marine named Steve Berg. It began in a basement and recently moved to a warehouse in Pennsylvania due to fast growth along with a small retail store. They carry all sorts of military uniform and surplus along with hunting camouflage and supplies.

The wonderful thing about PatriotSurplus.com is that they carry a lot more options for uniforms and boots all while keeping up with regulations (of course) and its less expensive than base/post run Clothing Issue. If you or your military loved one are stationed somewhere that may not be close to an actual military outpost, it can be frustrating and expensive buying badges, patches, cami's, dress uniforms, boots, PT gear, etc. All of the things that military members are required to have can be difficult to find and expensive to purchase but with PatriotSurplus.com, those hassles are alleviated!

You don't have to take my word for it though, you can go learn all about them and their amazing products and customer service HERE.

Now for what one lucky winner will be recieving.....

PatriotSurplus.com has graciously offered $25 for one lucky Lovely! Great right?!

If only I had gotten this a few months back when we had to buy some new Dress Blues shoes for Mr. Superman.

To enter this giveaway, leave a comment saying you want to win and what you would put the 25$ toward. You must include a valid email address at which you can be contacted.

This giveaway opens now and will stay open until Midnight PST, Wednesday, January 11th. One winner will be chosen and once announced on the blog and emailed is obligated to respond within 24 hours otherwise a new winner will be chosen.

Be sure to go and check PatriotSurplus.com out and keep them in mind for all of your military uniform and supply needs!!

In Honor Of...

507 posts and 372 Followers I'd like to give a big fatty thank you to all you LOVELIES for your sweet comments, emails, and messages.

You guys are the best.

Also welcome to all you newbies! If you haven't already, be sure to read up on the cute little intro to the blog and please don't be a creeper, leave me comments and let me know who you are and where I can find YOU!

As you all should remember, when I hit 350 followers I started brainstorming ideas for a "Mrs. S's Favorite Things" giveaway. I have a few things I'll be throwing in there when I finally get around to setting it all up but I also want to know, what you guys want! What of my favorite things would you be interested in having as well? Remember the winner will already get some of my favorite chocolate as well as my favorite perfume but what else strikes your fancy?

Now that we're in the 200's of days I've been without my loverface, I finally figured something out. The only way I have even an ounce of chance of getting sleep...

The Rundown

I have mentioned a few times in the last couple of months that I would be having some very exciting giveaways in 2011.

Well guess what Lovelies?
Its 2011!

The catch is that the first of these will not launch until I hit 350 followers so we are 7 away!

I thought if I gave a little teaser, you'd get those shameless shout outs rolling so here is a very small taste of what will be included. It will be a box full of some of my favorite things.

So there you have it.
A teaser.

7 followers away until these goodies and many others could be yours!

Battlefields & Blessings: Stories of Faith and Courage from the War in Iraq & Afghanistan

Way before Mr. Superman deployed I was contacted by Jocelyn Green, the author of Faith Deployed: Daily Encouragement for Military Wives and co-author of Battlefields & Blessings: Stories of Faith and Courage from the War in Iraq & Afghanistan. In that email she asked if I would be interested in receiving two autographed copies of Battlefields & Blessings: Stories of Faith and Courage from the War in Iraq & Afghanistan in return for reading it and then posting a review on my blog the week of Veteran's Day.

I jumped at the chance.

When I began reading Battlefields & Blessings: Stories of Faith and Courage from the War in Iraq & Afghanistan, I was prepared to be emotional since my own husband had just deployed to Afghanistan. What I wasn't prepared for was to get teary eyed while reading every single story. The layout of the book is different than any I had ever read before but I found it quite enjoyable. Each story is titled with a day from Day 1 all the way to Day 365. I found it nearly impossible to put down but if you're looking for a quick shot of faith and inspiration everyday but are limited with your time, the 365 day format is great.

The stories of faith, struggle, perseverance, and miracles told by not only deployed soldiers and veterans from the war in Iraq and Afghanistan suffering from PTSD, but also by parents and siblings of soldiers, chaplains, military wives, and widows were touching and full of conviction. Being able to read first hand accounts helped to give me a bit of peace and comfort knowing that so many other people have done what my husband is doing and they all came out stronger for it. Also being able to read accounts from missionaries to the Middle East and organizers of humanitarian efforts in addition to every other perspective that was offered, made the reading diverse and interesting in the sense of being able to see everything from several different perspectives.

I loved this book and would definitely recommend it to not only soldiers and their family members but to anyone. It obviously focuses on stories from people who have been a part of and witnessed war in one way or another but the strength and blinding faith that is offered in each story would be beneficial to anybody. What I found the most inspiring were the stories told by people who had previously not known God or had lost their faith somewhere in their life and the rediscovery and eye opening knowledge that God was very aware of them and their situation, is what gave me chills and made my heart burn with my own personal love and conviction of God and His goodness.

Now for those of you Lovelies who were paying attention and noticed that I said Jocelyn Green offered me TWO autographed copies of this fabulous book, its about to pay off. I am obviously keeping one but the other is going to be up for grabs! That's right, its giveaway time again. It's going to be simple. Leave a comment telling me why you want this book and you're entered! Short and sweet right? Also be sure to check out the links at the beginning of this because both of her books are fabulous and the website is phenomenally rich in its resources. Pass along the word too! Anyone is eligible for this giveaway and it closes on November 13th at Midnight PST.

What It Means To Be An Air Force Wife (To Me)

I've actually been wanting to write a post like this for a while and Nicole and her fabulous Giveaway gave me the push I needed! Make sure you all go and check out Signs of Patriotism as well. Her handiwork is incredible.

What it means to be an Air Force wife, to me, encompasses so many different attributes, emotions, feelings, responsibilities, fears, expectations, and aspirations that it is nearly impossible difficult to put it into words. Let me re-phrase that. It is difficult to put the precise and exact way it all feels and is, into words in a way that doesn't leave anything amiss or misconstrued or misunderstood. That said, I will still attempt it.

The Air Force used to feel like this mysterious and obscure entity. Something I knew about, appreciated (looking back now, my 'appreciation' level is laughable), but it was separate. Separate from me, my husband, our lives, and our future. Seeing my world now, and how utterly blessed and enriched it has become in just a short year, leaves me scratching my head in wonder as to how we ever existed outside of this glorious (and aggravating) military (read: Air Force) world.

For me, being an Air Force wife means representing my husband in an honorable, brave, classy, and strong way. It means being able to carry on conversations about everyone else who works in the bomb dump, who is on leave, who is deploying, returning from or heading to Korea. It means being able to know who is new in Line D. It means knowing how dispatch works, the difference between chaff and flare, bombs, rockets, air to air missiles, and air to ground missiles. It means always being aware of when the A-10's will be night flying and being able to know whether or not it truly is a thunderstorm shaking my house or just the jets. It means being able to differentiate the planes by how they sound flying over my house and being pretty good at guessing where they must be visiting from. It means knowing the gate guards shifts and whether or not my "favorites" are on duty.

Being an Air Force wife means switching my sleep schedule to match that of my husband's so as to get as much time together as possible, helping prep his Dress Blues (holding the ruler and telling him whether or not things look centered), and lint rolling him from top to bottom. It means checking in on him to see how his CDC's are going and offering relentlessly to help him study. It means giving him weekly head shaves. It means making cookies, cupcakes, and other treats for his shop. It means praising the littlest bit of improvement in something or an opportunity to get training for something else, even if it does lessen our "home" time together.

It means living 2,000 miles away from our families, friends, and everything familiar. It means days, nights, weeks, and months of loneliness. It means being overwhelmed and not being able to explain why. It means having so many plans and dreams but also knowing that making plans is a little idiotic because there is no guarantee you'll ever be able to follow through with them. It means my cell phone is an appendage to my body and willingness to walk out of church (gasp!) when it goes off.

Being an Air Force wife means keeping his ABU's clean and hung up, his flight line badges, ear plugs, and ipod/headphones all together so its easier for him to get ready for work. It means being prepared for the worst but readily (duh) accepting the best. It means finding numbered stickers all over everything we own and aspiring to be able to do  DIY PCS but realizing I'll probably never be that brave. It means facing the possibility and eventual reality of many separations, TDY's, deployments, and PCS's. It means hurry up and wait and nothing is for certain. It means we have a steady income, a roof over our head, and food on our table.

It means tearing up when 'God Bless the USA', 'Courtesy of the Red, White, and Blue', 'Letters From Home', and any other slightly patriotic (and chances are country) song. It means having a fabulous network and support system of other military spouses, from all branches, and creating unbreakable bonds with women I have never met. It means my body physically hurting and my heart aching when I hear of another fallen soldier or wounded warrior. Another ultimate sacrifice, another broken family, another pain-filled journey ahead of fatherless children and another widow getting a folded flag. Another Gold Star family. It means being HUA (Hooah, Oorah, Hooyah) through and through. It means immense pride when I see my Airman jump to attention and salute. It means butterflies in my tummy when I see him swagger through a crowd of camo.

Being an Air Force wife, to me, is everything. It is indistinguishable from who I am and who I will continue to be throughout his entire career. Being an Air Force wife is a blessing, a gift, an honor, and it's something I wouldn't trade it for anything in the entire world.

    A Shepherd's Stew of a Post

This is my first "this is what we have been up to lately" post in a very very long time. I'm excited because I actually have stuff to talk about. Ha! I am such a nerd.

Well for those who are completely out of touch with everything important aka my blog, twitter and FB account who may be behind on blog reading, this last week was crazy. My car baby developed a red ant and giant black ant infestation. If only we could have fumigated. My car baby also got very sick and needed some surgery and organ transplants. I'll just say that we are extremely blessed and grateful for our families. We really are extraordinarily lucky.

I also had some ER visits and doctors appointments. I am waiting on more referrals and thanks to some fabulous advice from my friend Leman, we have some hope glimmering at the end of one of our life decision tunnels. Seriously stoked about some news and possible treatments in our future.

Saturday found us sleeping in and then venturing out to the newly remodeled and reopened base pool. Dude. It was incredible. It felt so good to swim! We then ran some errands and picked up some things from Walmart. We headed over to Leman (my good friend) and Jay (her husband)'s apartment for some hang out time. Mr. Superman and Jay went to the store and picked up lasagna, salad, cheese bread, and cheese cake which we devoured later in the night. Us girls swam and then after dinner we headed to their storage garage to dig out a fantastic dining table set they GAVE to us. They are amazing. We then swam again until the pool closed. When we left I asked if Mr. Superman had had a good time. His response? "Its so weird and a little hard to get over hanging out with a Master Sergeant." Mr. Superman is an A1C (we're newbies remember?) Yeah I suppose it is for him. Ha ha I don't see rank.

Sunday was church bright and early. I was exhausted. A touch of sunburn combined with the previous day of swimming and going to bed later than usual made for a very difficult and tiring day. I also had to work which is always blech especially on Sunday. When I came home from work I saw that my incredible husband had done the literal MOUNTAIN of laundry. All I had to do was finish folding and hanging it up. He had tackled the daunting task of separating, sorting, and getting it all right side out. He also had done the dishes and wiped down the kitchen. He got a big smooch for his amazingness. Last night was a massive storm that made it extremely difficult to fall asleep. I know I've mentioned it before but the woods behind our house attract lightning like nothing else. We counted a good seven strikes right next to the house. I hate when the house is shaking and when things fall from the shock of it all.

Today is consisting of major cleaning, finishing a project I have going on for the master bedroom, trimming the hedges and bushes out front, sweeping both patios off, spraying for bugs inside and out, weeding the front beds, catching up on my bloggy friends and trying to make sure my man is fed when he gets home. I do have a few quick things to share before I bid adieu.
