You Know You're a Military Wife When...
I run across things like this all the time and I always find them funny. Funny because they are so true. I decided to put my own together with some help of a few friends who have actually seen the deployment part of it... because I needed to blog about something "light" and fun rather than having another downer session. Feel free to add!
1. You don't mind a phone call waking you up at 4 a.m.
2. You tell people that ask that he's 'only' been gone a month.
3. The smallest contact (short email or 2 minute phone call) from your man makes your entire week!
4. You cry over an email that says nothing more than "Hey- I love you and I miss you."
5. Those recruitment commercials on TV make you cry because you are so proud!
6. You sleep in PT attire, cuddled up in a poncho liner, because it's the closest you can come to being with your military man.
7. You know his "last four" better than your own.
8. Your stomach drops, your throat clenches, and you start to cry when you miss a phone call.
9. You know how to fold his sleeves as good as or better than he does.
10. You know how to recognize rank by uniforms.
11. You can recognize your man by the way he walks even though he is wearing the same exact thing as hundreds around him.
12. "No news is good news", "Hurry up and wait", and "Nothing is guaranteed" become your mottos. You also understand the irony and oxy-moron that is, "Military Planning."
13. You could wait forever for your loved one to return home into your arms.
14. You feel yourself growing more and more in love with your military man even while he's so far away.
15. Planning letters/care packages and putting them in the mail is more exciting then going out for a night on the town with the girls.
16. You hold off on seeing certain movies so you can see them with your military man when he comes home.
17. Some military movies make you laugh at how "far off" they are and others make you bawl your eyes out.
18. You can go from being happy, to sad, to lonely, to angry, to proud, and back to happy in a matter of minutes.
19. You sleep with the phone right next to you or in your hand, just in case.
20. If he's gone, you stop doing your hair, make-up, dressing up, and you have decided shaving is pointless.
21. The sight of any other man in a uniform makes you miss your Mister MORE than it makes you drool.
22. You feel lucky for each second granted to the two of you.
23. You are 3000 miles apart and you don't notice the time difference and talk until 5 am his time 2 am your time on a school night.
24. Phone kisses are just as good as the real ones.
25. You realize you can forgive your hubby for not calling you for a few weeks due to the fact that he really did "have to work."
26. Your cell phone shows 87 screens full of the number 2 for "repeat message" after you hear he left you a voice mail because you missed his call.
27. Even though you PCS'ed 6 months ago, you are still finding number stickers on everything.
28. Your civilian family & friends get confused or offended when they can't understand your conversation. You know, "Civi's, PCS, ACU's, ABU's, BDU's, TDY, BMT, DFAS, the BX, DoD, AFES, TACP, AD...."
29. You don't bat an eyelash when he say's "Uh, Honey they changed when I'm supposed to return home, yet again".
30. Every time you see him it feel's like it's for the first time all over again...EVERY TIME.
31. You always know what day payday falls on and get ticked off or stressed when there are more than two weekends during that pay period.
32.You accidentally pull out your id to show the greeter at Walmart.
34. You've learned to sleep through the night flying of helicopters and planes, tanks, flares, and artillery simulators.
35. You know that "field" has nothing to do with a field.
36. You have your own set of tools and actually know how to fix things.
37. You have said, "Good to go", "Roger that", or "Hoorah" without even thinking about it.
38. You know better than to go to the commissary on or the day after pay day.
39. You know what a "high & tight" is and better yet learned to do it.
40. You know what boot bands are, what they are used for, and how to put them on.
NOTE: I included a link with the post of a cute little article written by a Navy wife. Enjoy my lovelies!

Currently Failing at Life
Its one of those days. No, its one of those weeks months. I know that sometimes I can be a little over dramatic but I am so not being over dramatic right now.
I feel like my body is falling apart and I am 22 years old. I have lost more body parts and have been cut open more in the last 12 months than most people I know that are 70. I have had to go to the ER, and three doctors in the last 10 days. That is insane. Apparently my migraines and daily nose bleeds are the effects of my super rare blood disease that by the way, got diagnosed this morning. Sweet. I had planned on going to class, getting certified on some skills and having them signed off, then trying to finish cleaning my house, do my homework, then get the Mr. from base to do some running then grocery shopping. It was supposed to be a normal Thursday. You know, just another day with too much to get done and not enough time.
I can't seem to balance my new status as nursing student with what I have come to be as a great wife who keeps a clean, organized house with yummy dinners every night. I haven't cooked since before we left for AZ which seems an eternity ago. I can't get my homework done every night without breaking down over how much information each assignment and chapter entails and how I am magically supposed to soak it all up, remember it, then ace the giant tests every few days. FAIL.
To top it all off its getting harder to paste on a smile every other day when I find out another friend or acquaintance is expecting a baby. Don't get me wrong, I really do get excited and happy for them, and most of them are the most deserving people I know, but after 2 1/2 years of nothing but trying and hoping for a baby only to lose two precious children, my fallopian tubes, and what seems like all hope of having a child of our own, on our own.... Like I said, its getting harder. Harder doesn't even begin to explain how it feels but I won't keep going on.
Despite the horrible day/week/month I have had I know that it could always be worse. I am extraordinarily lucky to have Mr. Superman by my side, at home, and the life that we have built for ourselves. I have great family and friends and of course, my Heavenly Father. Besides, I still have to go get the Mr., do my homework, and go grocery shopping. When it rains, it pours but life doesn't care enough to pause for you to grab an umbrella.
Sorry for the rant/falling apart. I hope you all are having an enjoyable day and lovely week. For me its the start of my weekend. Hopefully I'll be more put together by the next time I decide to blog.

Kindred Connection #2

Here are the quickie instructions again for those who are new.
*Grab the Party Button
*Answer the questions on your blog
*Link to your post via Mr. Linky at Kindred Connection at Windy-Poplars
Remember if your blog is about "marriage, family, faith, decorating, crafts, travel, gardening, saving money, cooking, homemaking, style, and a dash of everyday life!" then you are a Kindred Blogger!
Here are week #2's questions:
1. What is your favorite vacation spot?
Ooohh the Mr. and I both love California (Newport, Huntington, Balboa) so so so much but when he got home last year (he had been gone for our 2 year wedding anniversary), he surprised me with an ocean-side room in Panama City Beach, Florida. It was GLORIOUS. We have decided to make it our anniversary tradition for as long as we can.
2. What are the three qualities that you most admire about your husband (or if you're not married what are the three qualities you would most desire in a man)?
Oh choosing only three is so hard! I think by far that Mr. Superman's unconditional love for me (you have NO idea how much he has had to put up with, deal with, take care of on my part) tops the list. I love how hard of a worker he is. Not just in his job as part of the USAF but also how hard he works around the house and taking care of me. He's always going non-stop. Number three will have to be his desire for a baby as much as me. We both were devastated when we got the diagnosis of infertility and he has been so good about holding me together. The fact that his heart is broken too shows me how completely connected we are. Someday we'll have our miracle.
3. What has been a meaningful Bible verse to you this week?
John 14:27 "Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid." I have to confess, I read this several times a week. Its something that has been helping me since I was 14. Love it.
4. What is your favorite color(or colors) and why?
Hmmmm difficult difficult. Green, black, and pink. I'm huge on color combos thought like black, pink, white, & gray or pink & green, or aqua & pink or aqua & brown. I'm a lover of color.
5. What is the funniest thing that happened to you in the last 24 hours?
I don't know if its been in the last 24 hours because my time blurs but Mr. Superman and I were driving home from running errands and I had an empty bowl and fork (from strawberries I had eaten on the way) sitting in the console next to the cup holders. He turned and the fork flew out and stabbed him in the foot. It wasn't funny but I lost it. I mean LOST it. I have not laughed that hard in over a year. Even funnier was his face when that first laugh flew out of my mouth. He tries so hard to keep a straight face sometimes but he's not very good at it. I know he's struggling when his his nostrils start flaring and he bites his bottom lip to keep from smiling. His whole "serious and angry" facade fell apart. I laughed so hard my stomach hurt. It was fantastic.
Alright lovelies, join the Kindred Connection. It's great!

Mr. Superman
This man right here has my heart. He is absolutely the love of my life. He loves me with no limits. I love that he loves me. All around me are people squandering their love, treating people with no kindness, getting their hearts broken, lonely people so unhappy they hate life... I am so extraordinarily grateful that this man came into my life. He saved me. He is incredible. He's also making dinner. Sweet.

A Military Wife
I've been trying to catch up on my blog reading and saw this posted on my friend Marie's over at ABU's & Cute Tennis Shoes. She always posts great stuff and I loved this so I had to steal it. It wasn't written by her and she isn't sure who did write it but its PERFECT. It was just what I needed on a day like today. A reminder that the sacrifice and "hard stuff" is all worth it.
"A military wife is mostly girl. But there are times, such as when her husband is away and she is mowing the lawn or fixing a youngster's bike, that she begins to suspect she is also boy. She usually comes in three sizes: petite, plump and pregnant. During the early years of her marriage it is often hard to determine which size is her normal one.
She has babies all over the world and measures time in terms of places as other women do in years. "It was in England that the children had the chicken pox...In was in Texas, Paul was promoted..." At least one of her babies was born or a transfer was accomplished while she was alone. This causes her to suspect a secret pact between her husband and the military providing for a man to be overseas or on temporary duty at times such as these.
A military wife is international. She may be a Kansas farm girl, a French mademoiselle, a Japanese doll, or a German Fraulein. When discussing service problems, they all speak the same language. She can be a great actress. To heartbroken children at transfer time, she gives an Academy Award performance: "New Mexico is going to be such fun! I hear they have Indian reservations...and tarantulas...and rattlesnakes." But her heart is breaking with theirs. She wonders if this is worth the sacrifice.
An ideal military wife has the patience of an angel, the flexibility of putty, the wisdom of a scholar and the stamina of a horse.
If she dislikes money, it helps.
She is sentimental, carrying her memories with her in an old footlocker. One might say she is a bigamist, sharing her husband with a demanding entity called "duty." When duty calls, she becomes No. 2.
Until she accepts this fact, her life can be miserable.
She is above all a woman who married a man who offered her the permanency of a gypsy, the miseries of loneliness, the frustration of conformity and the security of love. Sitting among her packing boxes with squabbling children nearby, she is sometimes willing to chuck it all in until she hears the firm step and cheerful voice of the lug who gave her all this.
Then she is happy to be...his military wife."
I hope you all enjoyed. Until next time my blog lovelies.

Going Green
Bahaha I am laughing at my post. If you know me well then you know why. No blog lovelies, I am not going granola. I did however do something this weekend that made me feel a little green(er). I picked my own fresh strawberries! Well, not my own but they are mine now. Let me just tell you all, they are absolutely and incredibly DELICIOUS! Bright, ruby red, juicy, ginormous strawberries. MMM!
Our weekend was relaxing (minus the 9 1/2 hours of combined homework time and ginomo migraine that I think I caught from my sister over the phone while she had hers in AZ. True story). We got lots of time together (the best), had some divine bbq, went strawberry picking, found some 8 year old sparklers in my memory box, and attempted to find a decently priced law mower (fail). All in all it was fantastic.
The picture montage includes Mr. Superman's (special) face, his grumpy face, me showin' my muscles to go pickin', a brown gator we found on base, picking strawberries, our sparklers, Mr. Superman catching me with a dandelion, and our gnarly back yard full of wild flower weed things. (We desperately need a lawn mower.) Enjoy!
*Ignore my defunkitated hair in the later picks. I had taken my little side braids out. I'm in the midst of a awkward hair stage*

A bit of sunshine on a cloudy Sunday
I've been doing some Sunday cruising on the blogs and was checkin' up on my new friend Mrs. G.I. Joe and I fell in love with this video she had posted. I completely agree with her on the fact that I was crying through the entire thing. Good tears! Mr. Superman and I have been extremely lucky in the fact that we are still fairly new to the military world (a year is still baby status), so we have not yet had to deal with deployments. This has gotta be one of the only and best highlights of said deployments. Enjoy, share, support our troops!

Kindred Connection
I've seen this on five different blogs I follow so I'm finally giving in even though I am a day late. This is a kindred connection button. If your blog is based on "marriage, faith, family, homemaking, decorating, crafts, cooking, travel, saving money, style, and a little bit of everyday life," then you qualify to join The Kindred Connection. To join just go to Windy Poplars to check it out.
1. If you could describe your desired lifestyle in one word, what would it be?
One word is so difficult. I'm going to have to go with content I suppose. Yes I am happy with the hubbs, and with our life but we are missing babies. We're waiting for our miracle and when we get it, I will then be content and my life will be full and complete.
2. What style of home is your "House of Dreams"?
Mr. Superman says I was born in the wrong era and in the wrong part of the US. I love everything old. I love big, old, historical looking, Victorian style, plantation homes. That is my dream.
3. If you could live in a fictional story/movie, which would it be and why?
I could really get myself into trouble here. I'm going to go with my major obsession by choosing Harry Potter.Yeah, I'm one of those.
4. Do you prefer coffee or tea? Favorite kind?
I don't drink coffee or tea but back in the day I was known to enjoy a wonderful icy chai :)
5. Share the last sweet/romantic thing your hubby did for you.
Everything Mr. Superman does is romantic. Lately its been him giving me back rubs, making dinner, doing laundry, scrubbin the tub so I could bathe, doing the dishes, getting my heating pads.... The list could go on forever. Mr. Superman is always extraordinarily considerate, sweet, romantic, etc etc.
