The One About Veteran's Day

Another Veteran's Day post. Shocker, I know. I actually wasn't planning on posting anything but I was just looking through a bunch of pictures from The Sandbox and of Mr. Superman in uniform, and I couldn't help it. He just makes me so flippin' proud! I have seen a quote circulating in FB world that I couldn't resist posting myself and thought I'd share it here too.

A Veteran is someone, who at one point in their life, wrote a blank check payable to the United States of America for an amount up to and including their life. That is beyond honor and there are way too many people in this country who no longer remember that fact.
I liked this because even though there is a lot of question and confusion as to what actually constitutes a 'veteran', in my heart, my husband is one of these men. He has given up so much to provide for our family and not only does he do it willingly, selflessly, and without complaint, he absolutely loves it.
He was made to be an Airman.
I was asked a few times in the last week what Veteran's Day means to me or what I usually do for Veteran's Day and before this year, its honestly just been a depressing reminder of the day that someone very dear to me took his own life. November 11th has never been Veteran's Day to me. I am a bit ashamed to admit that but now, this year, since we have been able to actually soak up this crazy military life, and especially since Mr. Superman is in Afghanistan, it means so much more. It is the day where there is so much gratitude shown and expressed for men and women like my husband. The rare, the few, the good, the giving... the soldiers who serve now with all their heart and the ones who have gone before whether it be fifty years ago or yesterday.
We often take for granted the very things that most deserve our gratitude.  --Cynthia Ozic
My heart goes out to those people who have lost loved ones in this war and all other wars past as well as to those who have suffered in anyway because of their selfless service to this country.
My prayers of gratitude and sincerest love are said with the intent of being able to bring anyone and everyone who may be hurting from the loss of a service member or for those serving away from their loved ones, a bit of peace and hope. Just know that even though we as a part of the military family rarely hear, "Thank You", this day is for our men and our women as well as for us.
If you're a civilian, thank a veteran today. If you don't happen to see one or know one, say a prayer for all of them.
As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them. --John Fitzgerald Kennedy
I want to end this with a big fat THANK YOU of my own and follow it up with an incredibly huge I LOVE YOU to my very own Airman who happens to own my heart.

Thank you to Cody and to you. To Grandpa Palmer, Steve McKinnon, and Kevin. To Matt, Grandpa Steele and Great Grandpa Steele. To Carrie and me (a little bit). I don't know your family history but if any of them served- thank you to them as well. God bless our troops. God bless America. And thank you to all your blog readers who serve or who support their loved one who serves. God bless you too!
